Andy
Dedicated to: Södra Latin Symphony Orchestra
Orchestration: 2,2,2,2/3,3,2,basstromb,1/timp,perc(3-4)/harp,piano/strings
Durata: 07'00''
Year: 2006
Comments: I look at this piece as a screen print. I use different templates
which are added in different places and orders to simulate this
fine graphical technique of which Andy Warhol was best
known for. I also tried to have this pop-art feeling throughout
the piece, looking at the orchestra more as a pop band than an
classical institution. Andy Warhol's Race Riots (1964) has been
a inspiriation for this piece, but also Roy Lichtenstein's famous
piece Whaam! (1963) has contributed to the atmosphere of the
music.

Miniatures for Sinfonietta
Orchestration: picc,1,1,1,1/1,1,1,basstromb,1/timp,perc(2)/harp,piano/vln,vla,vlc,strings
Durata: 10'00''
Year: 2006
Comments: This piece puts two very contrasting elements up against eachother.
The one titled Breaking Surface stand for fragility, peace and nature. I try to use the orchestra as if it were a chamber ensemble. In the contrasting part named Hitting Concrete I fokus on the metrical rythms and try to bring out the pushy, vivid tempo of a city.

Orchestration: violin
Durata: 04'30''
Year: 2006
Comments: This is the second piece (whereas the first one is Breaking Surface/Hitting Concrete) in which I experiment with two contrasting parts. But in this piece I take it a bit further making part a and b almost of the same lenght,
as if you had a pink cube next to a black one. I did also put the bravura part before the more introvert calm part, instead of the usual klichée of giving the musician a show-off in the end for the audience to remeber.

Dedicated to: Nina Bauer Nilsen
Orchestration: sop, vlc, pno
Durata: 07'00''
Year: 2006
Comment: The compositional process of Vilse/Lost gave me an experience I have never had
before. It took me a long time to make the scetches and to decide the material which
I would work with. It was inportant for me to create a relationship between the
instruments, to make them feel that they belong together. Composing this piece was
therefore, for me, like getting to know a person and to create a relationship with
him/her. Like an allegory of two persons trying to find eachother. You must not hurry.
You have to take your time and find the right path that suites both of you. They know
that they like eachother but are their feelings strong enough? How far do they dare
to go?
